Share your thoughts on special fishing regulations
Minnesotans can now vote on special fishing laws. As a result, the positive changes would take effect the following season. Specifically, the following would be discussed:
- Panfish in Dyers Lake (Cook County) and Sand Lake (Lake County)
- Walleye in Big Sandy Lake (Aitkin County) and Round Lakes (Itasca County)
- Brown trout in the Vermillion River (Dakota County)
- Lake trout in Caribou Lake (Itasca County)
- Northern pike in West Battle, Otter Tail, and Turtle River Chain of Lakes (Itasca County) (Fergus Falls and Bemidji area lakes in Otter Tail and Beltrami counties).

“I debated all week whether to start fishing from Rocky River, where I’m most comfortable, or further east, where reports were better but where the fish were deeper. Finally, I chose Rocky River.”

“It didn’t take long before we had our first walleye on the line, but that was the only one we caught. I chose to fish in Fairport Harbor because we could always go bass fishing in the bay if the weather turned out bad. However, we only caught a few sheepsheads and one perch, so the fishing wasn’t great, but no one got sick, so that’s a plus.”

Giant Catfish Catches Rule Mississippi River Tournament Near St. Louis

Meanwhile, the third annual Alton Catfish Classic took place on September 10 in Alton, Illinois, on the vast and fish-rich Mississippi River. In fact, the tournament was in its third year. As expected, north of St. Louis, this event drew hundreds of fishermen and spectators.

The tournament’s winning team included Chris Stout, 48, of Jackson, Tennessee, and Hunter Jones, 36, of East Prairie, Missouri. Altogether, they caught three catfish totaling 147.46 pounds, the heaviest of which was a 65-pound blue catfish. For their efforts, the winners received a prize package worth $18,500.

The tournament director, Alex Nagy, was quoted as saying to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, “They’re buying dinner tonight.”

Ashland’s Hatfield Wins Two-Day Phoenix Bass Fishing League Super Tournament on Mosquito Lake (Fishing News 09-12-2022)

On September 12, 2022, Steven Hatfield of Ashland, Ohio, in CORTLAND, Ohio, won the two-day MLF Phoenix Bass Fishing League on Mosquito Lake in Cortland, Ohio. In short, Hatfield won with a catch of 10 basses weighing 32 pounds, 10 ounces, and that was enough to win the tournament.

Also, this tournament served as the fifth and final regular-season competition for the Buckeye Division of the Bass Fishing League. As a result of his victory, Hatfield received $5,831 in prize money.

An obviously satisfied Hatfield said, “The first day I started on a couple of offshore areas and thought I was going to get some fish, but the fish were leaving and going shallow, and I didn’t catch a keeper until around 9 o’clock.”

Bassmaster Elite Series returning to Orange in 2023

During the 2023 season of the Bassmaster Elite Series, the competition will once again visit the Orange County Boat Ramp. Hawaii Longline Fishery Achieves Global Sustainability Certification

HONOLULU, HI – The Hawaii Longline Association (HLA), which fishes for swordfish, bigeye, and yellowfin tuna, has been awarded certification by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) for engaging in fishing practices that are environmentally responsible and sustainable. This fishery became Hawaii’s very first fishery to participate in the MSC program.

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Fisheries Standard is a standard that is acknowledged all over the world and is utilized to determine whether or not a fishery is well-managed. This standard reflects the most recent understanding of internationally accepted fisheries science and management.

The certification was awarded after an exhaustive examination that lasted for sixteen months and was conducted by an independent organization responsible for quality control, Control Union UK Limited.

Every certified fishery must adhere to the MSC Fisheries Standard’s three fundamental principles, which are as follows: 1) maintaining healthy fish populations; 2) reducing fishing operations’ negative effects on the surrounding environment; and 3) practicing responsible fisheries management.

In addition to protecting fish stocks and the marine environment, the process of MSC certification ensures that products can be traced back to a fishery that has been certified by MSC thanks to the required recordkeeping that is part of the process.

This analysis takes into account two distinct aspects of the longline fishery carried out by HLA members: the Hawaii shallow-set swordfish longline fishery and the Hawaii deep-set tuna longline fishery. Both of these aspects target different species of longline fish.

The total number of vessels in the fleet is 142, all of which are privately owned. The daytime deep-set fishing targets bigeye tuna, while the nighttime shallow-set fishery targets swordfish. For shallow-set trips, coverage of at least 100% is required from observers, while for deep-set trips, coverage of at least 20% is desired.

ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX (Sept. 12, 2022) – In just one year, 14-year-old Gus Richardson of Fate has gone from a part-time hobby to a national championship win.

Originally from San Marcos and New Braunfels, Richardson and his family moved to Fate about a year ago so that his father could start as Senior Pastor at Christ Church Rockwall.

Richardson is new to Rockwall County but not fishing. In addition to his state and national championships, he fishes in local South Texas derbies after school and on weekends.

“It’s nice to be out in God’s green Earth,” Richardson said. “I’ve just always loved catching fish,” he says when asked what he enjoys most about fishing. It’s difficult, but it’s extremely rewarding.”
